Be aware of the hazards of working at heights
This course is aimed at people who have to work at height from a working platform. There are a variety of mobile elevating working platforms (MEWPs) and the training will be specific to the machine being used. Operators should not be allowed to operate any other type of MEWP as they can have different uses and can be exposed to different hazards. The main types of MEWP are as follows:
- Scissor Lift
- Articulating with telescopic boom
- Telescopic boom
- Mast climber
The course generally lasts for one day for up to four candidates (3 candidates for mast climber). If there are more people to train or more machines, the training period must be extended
Your training course will be specific to the type of machine and will cover:
- The legal requirements (Health and Safety, PUWER) Correct PPE and effective use, including safety harnesses when applicable
- MEWP categories
- Structural Parts
- Pre-use inspection/handover
- Safe operating methods & hazards
- Windy conditions
- Use of hand tools in a MEWP
- Practical training
The course will conclude with a multi-choice test paper designed to evaluate the understanding of the course content and a practical appraisal to test the operators’ knowledge of machine inspection and use.
Enjoy certification for up to 5 years
A certificate will be issued for successful candidates and if requested an NPORS operator card which is nationally recognised across all industry sectors and is valid for 5 years.
